Senator Johnson to Visit Northeastern Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, running for re-election to the United States Senate for Wisconsin, will be featured at a Town Hall meeting in Florence, Wisconsin on Sunday, May 1, 2022. The event will take place at 1:00 PM at the Encore on Central, 748 Central Ave, Florence WI. DOG TRAINING CLASSES: TRI-COUNTY DOG TRAINING ACADEMY. Dog obedience classes will be held at their new location: The Barking Spot, 1946 Old Peshtigo Road, Marinette. All class sizes are limited and pre-registration is required as there will be no walk-in registration. Two Beginner classes will be offered at 6 and 7 p.m. starting Tuesday, May 3. Advanced class will follow at 8 p.m. Puppy class will start Thursday, May 5 at 6 p.m. This is a 7 week session with training starting the first night of class. Senior Health Insurance Counseling: Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 is the next scheduled date for supplemental health insurance counseling. This counseling session is free. It is offered as a public service, and it is held at the Marinette Menominee Area Chamber of Commerce office by appointment only. This service is available to both Wisconsin and Michigan senior citizens. The sessions are on an individual basis. Appointments can be made by calling the chamber office at 715-735-6681. Ext: 202. Maylyn Raygo-Nicklaus, Junior member of the Menominee American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 146, 818 First Street, Menominee, has reported a “Community Food Drive” for the Menominee St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry for April and May. The non-perishable food items, and non-food items such as cleaning supplies, laundry soap, facial tissue, paper toweling, face soap, dish soap and liquid hand soap are also needed. The items may be dropped off at the Menominee American Legion Post 146 – Monday-Saturday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. by using the front entrance of the Post building. Automotive Maintenance Camp, July 13th & 14th from 8:00a.m.-2:00p.m., Welding Camp, July 18th – 22nd, from 8:00a.m.-2:00p.m., and Electro-Mechanical Technology & CNC/Machining Camps, July 25th – 29th, from 8:00a.m.-2:00p.m. Hands-on activities and instruction provided from NWTC faculty. Local Industry tours provided for the weeklong camps with breakfast and lunch provided for all camps. MENEKAUNEE OLD TIMERS PICNIC. The 43rd picnic will be held at noon at Red Arrow Park, Marinette, for anyone 50 years and older with ties to Menekaunee. Menominee Recreation Department 2022 Annual boat launch permit stickers are now on sale at Menominee City Hall (2511 10th St.) at the Treasurer’s office or Menominee Recreation Department. Business hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Friday’s 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. The annual permit entitles the purchaser the use of the Mystery Ship (adjacent to the river park campground) 18th Ave (adjacent to cemetery), and Marina boat launches. Anyone wishing to obtain an annual permit MUST provide the following information or an annual permit will not be issued. RETURN TO WORK. The UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus Division of Continuing Education & Community Engagement is offering a self-paced session on how to return to work during the COVID-19 pandemic. This online-only course can provide guidance to employees about actions they can take to keep themselves, their coworkers, their families and their community safe as businesses reopen and workers return to work. “Return to Work” also provides employees with insight into new or modified policies and procedures that business owners may implement to maintain a safer work environment and protect employee’s health during the COVID-19 outbreak. The estimated course length is 1 hour. Employees will take an online assessment to assure comprehension. The training can be completed in approximately 30 minutes. MENTAL HEALTH DURING A CRISIS. The UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus Division of Continuing Education & Community Engagement is offering self-paced sessions on how to take care of ones mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. This course was specifically developed to proactively address emotional upheaval and expand ones understanding of psychological well-being. Specifically, the course helps identify and help process reactions to crisis by learning healthy ways to cope when circumstances feel beyond ones control. The course will be taught my Angela Wessels, an alum of UW-Green Bay and has a bachelor’s degree in psychology with minors in human biology and human development. 1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN (ages birth to 6). People may talk to Lara Lakari at the Stephenson Public Library to register for this read-at-home program. For all the reasons reading to a child benefits brain development, people may use this program to establish the reading habit by tracking the books one and one’s child read together. For every 100 books one reads, a child earns a sticker to put on the bulletin boards at the library. At the end, one’s child earns a certificate of completion and a book to keep.
MARINETTE SENIOR CENTER OFFERINGS/INFORMATION. Individuals 50 or older qualify to become a member of the Marinette Senior Center. Yearly membership is $10 per person. The center offers a variety of activities, exercise opportunities, crafts, and monthly newsletter. Marinette County also prepares and services meals Monday through Friday on site at a reasonable cost.
