LEXINGTON, Ky. (Uk Public Relations) During Black History Month, the University of Kentucky Commonwealth Institute for Black Research (CIBS) will current a virtual symposium on the historical past of race and sports activities. Anastasia C. Curwood

Curwood is affiliate professor of heritage, director of the Commonwealth Institute for Black Scientific studies, and director of African American and Africana Experiments at Uk. She is the author of the forthcoming, “Shirley Chisholm and Black Feminist Power Politics: A Biography.” A lifelong horsewoman, she is a researcher of the history of Black equestrians.

Marta N. Mack

Mack is a lecturer of sport leadership in the Office of Kinesiology and Health Advertising in the British isles School of Education. She attained her Ph.D. from the College of Iowa. She situates her exploration at the intersection of the Critical Cultural Scientific studies of Activity and Black Scientific tests, which focuses on the activities of Black girls in sports. She is presently at operate on the e book, “Not Black, Not White, but Negro: Queen of the Negro Leagues Disrupts the American Mythology of Racial and Ethnic Belonging.” She tweets from @ProfessorTechie and @SportswomenNoir.

Derrick E. White

Derrick E. White is professor of heritage and associate director of African American and Africana Experiments at British isles. Born and lifted in Lexington, Kentucky, he acquired his Ph.D. from The Ohio Condition University. He is an editor on the University Push of Kentucky series “Race and Sports” with Gerald Smith. He is most lately the creator of “Blood, Sweat, and Tears: Jake Gaither, Florida A&M, and the Background of Black College Football” (College of North Carolina Push, 2019). He co-hosts “The Black Athlete Podcast” and tweets from @blackstar1906.
