St. PAUL – Winona Point out University Athletic Corridor of Fame member June Courteau was introduced with the Minnesota Ladies and Women of all ages in Activity Working day committee Legacy Award on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Historical past Centre in St. Paul. 

The Minnesota Legacy Award honors an individual for a lifetime of sizeable and significant contributions to advancing chances for women and females in activity in Minnesota. 

Upon obtaining the NGWSD award, Courteau claimed, “I would like to thank my spouse and children, my mom and father, who have been excellent illustrations…they taught me to stand up for what you believe in.”  Courteau went on to thank Winona Point out professors Dorthy Magnus and Vivian Fusillo, as properly as coach Marge Moravec, for their positive influence on her enhancement as an formal and how to regard some others. 

Courteau, a 1991 WSU Athletics Corridor of Fame inductee, was honored for her operate in officiating women’s basketball at all levels. Her get the job done ranged over 40 years and involved doing the job the 1992 Olympic Games and in the WNBA involving 1997 and 2010. In addition, Courteau oversaw referee coaching for many businesses, including the WNBA and NCAA. 

In addition to her WSU Hall of Fame honor, Courteau has gained the 1989 Naismith Award, was tabbed as the 1990 ACC Official of the 12 months and acquired the 2013 WBCA Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Courteau is a 1972 graduate from Winona Point out, earning a diploma in actual physical instruction and wellness education and learning. Courteau attended WSU prior to formal intercollegiate athletics currently being available on campus, but participated in basketball, volleyball, and softball.
